Escaping to a tropical island is often romanticized as the ultimate cure for life’s hardships—a chance to leave behind the stresses of daily existence. However, the allure of Bali’s exotic destinations and Instagram-perfect imagery often creates unrealistic expectations, leading to exaggerated and, at times, absurd and unruly behaviors among vacationers. This project seeks to capture these surreal moments, offering a visual commentary not only on the issues fueled by Bali’s overtourism, but also on its far-reaching impacts on local communities—culturally, socioeconomically, and environmentally.
